Do we both need Netflix?
Yes. Netflix video is protected, so every participant needs their own Netflix account and must open the same title. Couch synchronizes the playback and adds the call - it never streams or copies video.
How do I start a watch party?
Open a title on Netflix, click the Couch icon, choose Create a party, then Copy invite link and send it to your friends. When they open the link, the same show opens and they join automatically.
The video or audio call won't connect
- Allow the camera/microphone permission prompt on the Netflix page.
- If the tiles show but stay black, click anywhere on the page - browsers require a click before they play audio from others.
- Some strict office/school networks block peer-to-peer media; try a different network.
Playback isn't syncing
Make sure everyone is on the same title (the invite link handles this). Use the ⟳ resync button in the overlay to pull everyone to your exact position after ads or buffering.
Is my data private?
Yes - calls, chat, and sync flow directly between participants (peer-to-peer). We run no servers that collect your data. See our Privacy Policy.
Which browsers are supported?
Chrome and Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based browsers).
